Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. This West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a vast area that extends from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often cited, however her short stay wasn't. Brugel was raised in Courtice near Oshawa, Ontario. The first goal she had was to be a dancer but an increase in her height meant that she literally outgrew her dance partner. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet and 1 inch." When I grew out of my male counterparts, I gave up. Numerous former dancers choose to become actors. In Brugel's case, it was the encouragement of her drama teacher at high school that led her to take the step she wanted. Her teacher invited her to try out for roles in the school's production. She was the teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the school's annual show. It was the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years since, Brugel has landed roles on over 60 shows on small and big screens. She attracted the most attention when she landed the character of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel played the role of Rita in The Handmaid's Tale, a series that was filming over 10 years ago.
